Sunrise phase of .eu domains
There have been 346.218 applications in total in the first phase of the .eu domain - the so called sunrise phase. Also in this phase there have been many domains, for which there was more than one application. The rule "first come - first served" also was valid during this phase.
After passing this first step it was necessary to pass the strict sunrise rules including trademark or previous rights check. In total 177.062 applications have not been successfully passed this procedure and the domain registration was refused. Domains, which have not been allocated, have been put to a second round in the general availabilty phase, which is called Landrush, also with the "first come - first served" rule.
As most of this domains are so called exclusive or premium domain names with high value, there was big interest. Interested companies and also investors worked hard together with registrars in optimizing their registration systems to register as many high value domains as possible.
